Uber and Netflix account details being sold for £8 on the internet

After the first annual update of the Dark Web Market Price Index, compiled by researchers at Top10VPN.com, it was revealed that login details for Uber, Netflix as well as Fortnite are being sold on the dark web for as little as £8.

The Independent  reported that a rash of data breaches have helped fuel the online black market.

Simon Migliano, head of research at Top10VPN.com stated that the situation is an understandably worrying one

With consumers storing more and more payment and login details online, the internet has become a major source of criminal activity.

The price for a Netflix account is around £8.19 whilst an Uber account is approximately £7.61. Simon Migliano also stated that web users needed to remain constantly vigilant as identity thieves can access personal details in a various ways.

He also explained that ways of protecting oneself include, using unique passwords and encrypting connections to WiFi hotspots with a VPN.

Failure to do this makes it very easy for hackers to steal sensitive data transmitted via these public networks.
