Addison Lee, a London provider of premium private hire, courier, and black taxi services, has teamed up with Octopus Energy to offer its drivers more accessible and cost-effective electric vehicle (EV) charging options.

Starting today, Addison Lee drivers will benefit from Octopus Energy’s EV roaming service, Octopus Electroverse, revolutionising the way they charge their vehicles. The innovative ‘one card, one app’ system eliminates the need for multiple apps and subscriptions, allowing drivers to use a single tap to access most charge point brands throughout the capital.

Furthermore, the collaboration brings significant savings for Addison Lee drivers, offering up to 24% off charging costs at thousands of Source London and MFG EV Power charge points across London.

This initiative is part of Addison Lee's commitment to sustainability, having invested over £80 million in the past three years to modernise its fleet. The company now boasts London’s largest sustainable fleet, including 600 plug-in hybrid electric VW multivans and Audi A6s and A8s, alongside 1,000 fully electric VW ID.4s, catering to customers prioritizing quality and environmental responsibility.

The deal coincides with a surge in customer numbers for Octopus Electroverse, which has nearly tripled in the past year, making it the UK's largest EV roaming service. This partnership marks a significant step towards improving the EV charging infrastructure and accessibility for professional drivers in the capital, further reinforcing both companies' dedication to environmental sustainability.

Liam Griffin, CEO at Addison Lee, said: “As the first private hire operator in London to introduce EVs at scale, we have been a pioneer of electrification. This also means that we have seen first-hand the difficulties that private hire drivers face when it comes to finding reliable and available charging infrastructure. Over the last three years, we have committed to supporting our drivers with this ongoing challenge, and we are pleased to add Octopus Energy to our range of strategic charging partnerships.”

Matt Davies, Director of Octopus Electroverse, said: “Addison Lee has taken brilliant steps towards electrifying its fleet. We’re excited to now give their thousands of electric cab drivers access to our super-simple EV charging experience, as well as discounts on key charging networks.”
