Addison Lee has appointed D4Drivers as its official driver medical partner, as the private hire operator moves to streamline medical assessments required for driver licensing and ongoing compliance.

The agreement gives Addison Lee drivers access to Group 2 medical assessments through D4Drivers’ clinic network across London, with appointments typically available within three days. Group 2 medicals are required every three years for licensed professional drivers to confirm fitness to drive.

Under the partnership, D4Drivers becomes Addison Lee’s designated provider for driver medicals and related assessments. Bookings will be handled through D4Drivers’ existing system, which is designed to minimise disruption for drivers who would otherwise face waits of several weeks for appointments.

Medical delays have been a recurring operational issue for licensed drivers, often resulting in lost working time while licences are renewed or updated. Current waiting periods for Group 2 assessments can extend to three or four weeks in parts of the capital, creating gaps in driver availability.

Partnership aims to cut waiting times and reduce costs for licensed drivers across London

Addison Lee said the partnership is intended to support driver wellbeing while also maintaining regulatory standards. Discounted rates negotiated under the agreement are expected to reduce operating costs for drivers, while faster access to appointments is aimed at keeping vehicles on the road.

D4Drivers completes more than 100,000 driver medical assessments each year through a network of over 110 clinics nationwide. The company specialises in Group 2 medicals for taxi, private hire, HGV and bus drivers, working with both individual drivers and fleet operators.

The partnership launches this month and is open to all Addison Lee drivers operating in London. D4Drivers said it will also continue to offer medical services to other fleets and licensing authorities, with flexible booking options and nationwide coverage remaining in place.

Tony Smith, Head of Driver Experience at Addison Lee said: “Reliable, compliant fleets depend on drivers being able to complete medicals quickly and affordably. With D4Drivers, we’re improving access to assessments across London, reducing delays and removing friction from an important requirement. It’s another step forward in looking after drivers and the customers who rely on them every day.”

Tom Blain, Managing Director of D4Group, said: “We’re delighted to be appointed as Addison Lee’s medical partner. Our mission has always been to make high-quality driver medicals easier and more affordable. Supporting Addison Lee’s drivers in London is a perfect extension of that mission, and we look forward to helping keep drivers healthy and on the road.”
