Attacker sentenced to over six years in jail after stabbing Coventry taxi driver in neck and chest
A man has been sentenced to six years and nine months in prison following a violent knife attack on a taxi driver in Coventry.
Artur Nowostawski, 40, launched the assault on 29 April after being picked up from Coventry Railway Station. The taxi was en route to Bennetts Road South when the attack took place just before the journey’s end.
Nowostawski struck the driver multiple times in the neck and chest with a knife, demanding money.
The incident prompted a swift police response, with a public appeal issued to locate Nowostawski. He was arrested the following day. At Warwick Crown Court, Nowostawski admitted to attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. His sentence was handed down on 6 August.
This case highlights the dangers faced by taxi drivers, who are often on the front line in dealing with violent crime. The lengthy sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime.
DC Jack Phillips from Coventry CID, said: "This was an unprovoked and sustained assault which left the victim with serious injuries.
"They were lucky not to be more seriously hurt, and are now thankfully on the road to recovery.
"This case took quick work from the officers to identify Nowostawski and arrest him in order to bring this case to court, and I'm glad he has been put behind bars for a significant period of time."
