Three local authorities join to brief taxi drivers on CROSS-BORDER regulations after surge in online misinformation
Updated: Aug 7
All taxi drivers across the Fylde Coast will soon receive a crucial briefing note addressing the impact of out-of-area private hire vehicles exploiting cross-border regulations.
Councils in Blackpool, Fylde, and Wyre have joined forces to tackle emerging questions within the local taxi trade. This collaboration comes in response to the rising presence of private hire vehicles, such as those licensed in Wolverhampton or operated by Uber, working in the area.
The influx of these out-of-area vehicles has sparked concern and queries among local taxi operators and stakeholders. Many have raised questions regarding the legalities and operational standards of these vehicles.
In a concerted effort to clarify the situation and put an end to misinformation, the three councils have created a comprehensive briefing note. This document will be distributed directly to all taxi drivers licensed within the three local authorities.
A spokesman on behalf of three authorities said: “Taxi drivers across the Fylde Coast have been contacting us on a regular basis in regards to different aspects of legislation that governs private hire vehicles.
“Although we have been providing this information we are aware that many conversations are taking place on social media where the incorrect information is still being shared.
“We have worked together to produce a note that counters the misinformation that is being shared online and clarifies the points they are raising. It is really important that the taxi trade understand the legislation that is place and the powers we have to support them.”
