Liverpool City Council officers have issued another 40 Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) during its latest evening operation targeting vehicles parked illegally on taxi ranks.
Licensing Enforcement Officers, working alongside Parking Services, carried out the enforcement on Thursday evening. The operation focused on deterring private motorists from occupying dedicated taxi spaces, which remain a key concern among licensed drivers in the city.
This latest action forms part of a series of ongoing enforcement operations in the city.
In July alone, two further joint operations by Licensing Enforcement Officers and Parking Services were reported in the region.
In early July, teams issued 37 Penalty Charge Notices during a weekend operation across Liverpool city centre. The action was specifically aimed at drivers blocking taxi ranks and came after another spike in rank obstructions.
A further enforcement effort occurred in mid‑July, capturing national attention when 72 tickets were issued over a weekend crackdown focused on similar rank misuse issues.
Local taxi drivers throughout the UK regularly raise concerns over vehicles blocking ranks, affecting their ability to pick up passengers and operate legally.
A Liverpool City Council Licensing spokesperson said: “Liverpool Licensing Enforcement Officers with colleagues from Parking Services last night continued to target inconsiderate motorists parking their vehicles on Taxi Ranks.
“A total of 40 Penalty Charge Notices were issued during the evening.”
