Edinburgh taxi fares set for 9.5% rise pending public consultation
The City of Edinburgh Council is considering increasing taxi fares by 9.5%, with the proposed changes affecting all fare levels, including festive tariffs.
The council reviews taxi fares every 18 months to ensure they remain fair for both drivers and passengers, and this latest adjustment would align with ongoing cost pressures faced by the taxi trade.
In addition to the general increase, the council plans to modify airport pick-up and drop-off fees. Under the new proposal, these charges could reach up to £6, provided that the fee does not exceed the actual costs set by the airport.
The proposed changes are subject to public consultation, a necessary step before any new fare structure is implemented. This consultation process aims to gather views from the community and ensure that any adjustment is considered in light of public and industry input.
If approved, the new fare table is expected to come into effect in December 2024.
