Elderly taxi passenger killed in Bradford collision as driver arrested

A 71-year-old woman has died following a road traffic collision involving a taxi on Thornton Road in Bradford, according to West Yorkshire Police.


Officers were called at 10.17am on 11 April by the ambulance service to reports of a serious incident involving a grey Toyota Prius taxi. Despite receiving medical attention, the woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the taxi, a 72-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Police confirmed he was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.


Thornton Road remained closed throughout the afternoon as specialist officers carried out enquiries at the scene. The investigation is being led by the force’s Major Collision Enquiry Team.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who may have seen the collision or has relevant dashcam footage. Officers said any information could assist in establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
