A licensed taxi travelling on the M6 southbound near Junction 11 was stopped by Staffordshire Police after officers discovered a significant defect to one of its rear wheels.

The Toyota Prius was found to have a large section of its alloy rim missing. Officers issued a PG9 prohibition notice at the roadside, effectively taking the vehicle out of service. A bright orange cord can be seen in police images securing the damaged wheel and preventing further movement.

Police confirmed that passengers were on board the taxi at the time of the stop. The driver has been reported and the vehicle was immediately immobilised to prevent further risk to public safety.

A spokesperson from the Road Crime Team said the incident could have led to a serious accident had it not been stopped in time.

The spokesperson said: “M6 S/B J11 PG9 issued to a taxi due to condition of one of the wheels.

“Lucky we stopped it before an accident happened. Scarily the taxi had passengers in the rear.“

“Driver reported and vehicle immobilised.”
