A man who threatened a Uber driver with a knife before stealing his vehicle in Huntingdon has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Jason Edgar, 40, was jailed at Huntingdon Law Courts on Friday 13 March after pleading guilty to robbery and possession of a knife in a public place, following an attack on an Uber driver in the early hours of 28 November.
According to the case details provided by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Edgar ordered an Uber to Riverside Road, Huntingdon, shortly after midnight. When the vehicle arrived, he first tried to get into the driver’s seat before climbing into the rear of the car and holding a knife to the driver’s neck.
Edgar then demanded the driver turn off the vehicle’s CCTV camera and ordered him to drive towards Cambourne. On reaching Ermine Street South, Edgar told the driver to pull over and said he was taking the vehicle.
The driver, a man in his 40s, handed over the keys after fearing for his life and walked away before calling police. Officers later found Edgar in School Lane, Cambourne, in the early hours of the same morning and arrested him.
Detective Constable Valentin Radulescu said: “This was a terrifying experience for the victim who feared for his life that evening.
“Thanks to the victim’s quick actions and the fast response from officers, we were able to locate and arrest Edgar. I hope this sentence reassures the public that there is zero tolerance for anyone who carries a weapon or threatens violence in our communities.”
