London City Airport will double its taxi rank barrier fee to £2 for all vehicles from Thursday 17 July 2025, the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association (LTDA) has confirmed.
The current £1 charge, applied at the final stages of the airport’s taxi rank, will be replaced with a higher flat rate for every taxi entering the site. The change applies to both All London and Suburban licensed taxi drivers who operate from the airport.
As part of the update, the airport is also introducing extended marshal coverage. Marshals will now be present for all hours that the airport is operational.
In addition to the increased fee and staffing changes, the airport will switch to a cashless payment system. The newly installed barrier will now accept only contactless or card payments. Coins will no longer be accepted.
The increase to the fee and operational changes are set to take effect from mid-July, aligning with the airport’s wider service adjustments.
