Detectives investigating the murder of a man found dead in a burnt out taxi near Langford have renewed their appeal for information, one year on from the discovery.
Police were alerted shortly before 7.30am on Thursday 6 February 2025 after a Skoda Octavia taxi, was found burned out in a field close to the B659 Langford Road. Officers attending the scene discovered a body in the driver’s seat.
The victim was later identified as 47-year-old Jesbir Singh Khela, known to some as Jessy, from Letchworth in Hertfordshire. A post-mortem examination confirmed he had been murdered, prompting a major investigation.
Bedfordshire Police said seven people have been arrested in connection with the case to date, but no charges have been brought. Enquiries remain ongoing under Operation Acle, with detectives continuing to assess information received since the incident.
Crimestoppers offers £20,000 reward as detectives say key information may still be missing
On the first anniversary of Mr Khela’s death, the independent charity Crimestoppers announced a £20,000 reward for information passed to them directly and anonymously that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Investigators believe there may be individuals who have not yet come forward or who may have dismissed information as insignificant. Police say even small details about movements, vehicles or conversations around the time of the incident could prove critical.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or via the Bedfordshire Police website, quoting Operation Acle. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or through its online reporting service.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Inwood, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: "A year on from the tragic death of Jessy, his family and friends still have many unanswered questions.
“We know that someone out there will have information that could help us find out what happened in the lead up to his death. Please do come forward and tell us what you know.
“If you don't want to speak to the police, you can speak to independent charity Crimestoppers, which is separate to the police. They will not share any of your details with us, and they are offering a reward of £20,000 for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.”
