New London taxi booking app JUMP set to join the market in 2024
Updated: Aug 11
A new player is set to join the London taxi app market in 2024 with the introduction of a free-to-use booking app named Jump.
The innovative platform will be accessible to drivers who are part of the Taxiworld system, currently utilised by nearly 5,000 black cab drivers across the capital. This marks a significant step as the company launches an integrated hailing platform designed exclusively for these drivers.
The application's functionality is streamlined through card payment devices installed in the driver's compartment. Job offers will pop up on the screen, similar to other taxi app platforms, ensuring ease of use for drivers.
Via their website Taxiworld has assured that fares earned via the app will match those from street hailing, meaning no commission fees to the operator, providing a fair deal for drivers while avoiding overcharging or surge pricing passengers.
The operation of the app is said to be straightforward and passengers can sign up in seconds.
Jobs will appear on the driver’s screen and they then have the option to accept or ignore the work. Payments can be processed via the Taxiworld System or in cash.
London's black taxi apps have increased in popularity, transforming how many iconic cabs operate in the capital. This trend is driven by several key factors.
The apps allow passengers to hail a cab with a few taps on their smartphones, eliminating the need to find a taxi rank or wave one down on the street. For busy Londoners, this is seen as a time-saver.
Some passengers like seeing driver details, tracking their cab’s arrival in real-time, and even share their trip details with friends or family. The integration of cashless account based payments through these apps also aligns with the broader shift towards digital transactions and can itemise expenses from businesses and employees.
