West Midlands Police are calling for witnesses after an 80-year-old man died following a collision involving a taxi in Handsworth.
The incident occurred at around 5.25pm on Wednesday 2 July on St James Road. The pensioner was reportedly sitting on a wall outside a church when he was hit by a grey-silver VW Touran taxi performing a U-turn.
The man suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to hospital. His condition worsened and he died two days later, on Friday 4 July.
Police have confirmed that the driver of the taxi is cooperating with the investigation. Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now seeking more information to establish the full circumstances.
Sergeant Richard Evans, from WMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We would appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have any dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
“We would particularly like to trace the owner of a second vehicle which pulled into St James Road and may have seen the taxi which was a grey, silver VW Touran, conducting a U-turn in front of them.”
Anyone with dashcam footage or information is urged to call 101 quoting log number 4650 of 2 July, or email sciu@westmidlands.police.uk.
