Police officers release CCTV image of man after assault on taxi driver in Newcastle

Northumbria Police officers are investigating an assault on a taxi driver in Newcastle and have issued an image of a man they would like to trace.
It was reported that two men had used a taxi to drive them to an address on Alton Street, Byker on Monday 11 April.
However on arrival, it was said that both men became verbally abusive and proceeded to assault the taxi driver – a 32-year-old man – by kicking and punching him.
The two offenders then left the vehicle and entered the address they had been driven to. It is alleged both men then returned outside and caused damage to the door and front bumper of the car.
An investigation has been ongoing since the incident, and as part of their enquiries, officers have identified a man who they would like to trace.
He was seen in the area at the time of the assault and could have information which can assist police.
The man pictured, or anyone who knows him, is asked to contact police by either calling 101 or using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page on the website quoting crime reference 042047K/22.
