A private hire driver has been left with facial injuries after being assaulted and robbed while waiting for a fare in Carr Mill, St Helens.
The incident happened on Sunday 29 June at around 5.10pm on Stainton Close. The victim, a private hire driver in his 40s, was sitting in his black Citroen Dispatch when he was approached by a young male on an electric bike.
The bike was described as black and grey. The rider wore a grey tracksuit and black cap and stopped directly in front of the vehicle before interfering with one of the tyres.
Three more males, all white, then appeared from a nearby block of flats. One of the suspects was over 6ft tall, of large build, in his 30s, with long brown hair. He was wearing grey shorts and an olive t-shirt. Another was described as being in his mid-30s to 40s with grey hair.
The group became aggressive, shouting at the driver and attempting to take the car keys. During the attack, they demanded and took money from the driver, leaving him injured.
Detective Inspector, Jimmy Rotherham, said: “This incident left the victim in shock with facial injuries and with considerable expense as the suspects stole cash and keys, leaving the car undrivable.
"People working in our communities providing vital services should be able to work without fear of being subjected to an ordeal like this.
"Enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible for this robbery. This includes examination of CCTV footage and forensic enquiries, and we would be keen to hear from anyone who might have dashcam footage or CCTV in that area. We also appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident itself or who saw the offenders acting suspiciously to get in touch.”
