FREENOW has today introduced a new fleet option offering fixed fares for Black Cab journeys starting outside Central London. The pricing structure is optional for drivers and aims to increase demand while maintaining flexibility for cabbies.
According to FREENOW, the decision follows driver feedback gathered through an internal survey. They say many of their drivers said fixed fares could help grow earnings, particularly for trips heading into Central London, to the airport, or home. The ability to accept or decline such jobs was a key factor in driver support for the scheme.
The new feature also responds to passenger demand for fare certainty. FREENOW believes that by offering a clear price up front, more people will feel confident booking a Black Cab through the app.
Jobs under the new fleet will be clearly marked. The fixed price will appear on the offer card shown to drivers within the app, who can then decide whether to accept the job. Standard metered Black Cab jobs will continue to form the majority of ride offers say FREENOW.
The fixed fare option does not apply to prebooked jobs, and the change does not affect FREENOW’s existing Airport Fixed Fare system. Drivers choosing not to take part in the new scheme will continue to receive airport jobs on the same terms as before.
FREENOW said the change is part of wider efforts to support Black Cab drivers and ensure they have access to new streams of demand while working independently.
