Police are appealing for information, video footage and witnesses following a serious assault in Warrington town centre.
The incident took place late on Friday 12 September. At around 11pm, a man and his friend left Walton Gardens and began walking along Old Chester Road towards New Chester Road to arrange a taxi home.
During the walk, the pair were involved in a verbal exchange with two unknown men. The situation appeared to end without incident and the victim and his friend continued on their way.
After his friend left, the victim sat on a wall on Old Chester Road. A short time later the same two men approached him. Police believe an altercation took place, during which the victim lost consciousness.
The man later recalled being woken by a local taxi driver who had discovered him on the ground with significant injuries. The driver took him to hospital.
The victim sustained serious head and facial injuries. These are not thought to be life threatening or life changing.
Officers are now calling for anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage from the area, to come forward.
Detective Constable Caitlin Bebbington, of Warrington CID, said: “A number of enquiries are currently underway to fully understand what occurred here and, as part of our investigation, we are looking to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and can help us piece together how the victim sustained these serious injuries.
“We are also looking to hear from anyone who may be in possession of any CCTV, dashcam or ring doorbell that may also aid our enquiries.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police via the website or on 101, quoting incident reference 25000759186.”
