Taxi drivers are still waiting for penalty charge notices (PCNs) to be cancelled following an IT error on 16 June, according to the United Cabbies Group (UCG).
A UCG spokesperson said Transport for London (TfL) has yet to confirm the cancellation of PCNs issued to taxis in error due to a system fault that failed to recognise exemptions at the Silvertown and Blackwall tunnels.
The UCG said it informed TfL that taxi drivers should not be left covering the cost of mistakes resulting from TfL’s technical failings. The trade group added that goodwill among drivers has worn thin following almost a year of problems since the high-profile cyber attack on TfL’s systems.
One driver said they had been told to “ignore” their PCN. In response, the UCG said TfL had committed to cancelling all incorrect fines without the need for individual appeals. However, there is still no visible sign of this taking place.
The UCG confirmed it has asked TfL to resolve the issue urgently and said it would update members once a timeframe for cancellation is confirmed.
A United Cabbies Group (UCG) spokesperson said on 9 July: “Today the UCG have told Tfl , that we should not be using our members resources to pick up another one of TfL’s IT errors , we have had almost a year of picking the tab up since the cyber attack and the good will has well and truly run dry We are aware Tfl have yet to cancel PCN’s issued in error on 16 June and they will come back to us to confirm these are done.”
