A teenage passenger sustained serious facial injuries after stones were thrown at passing vehicles in Middlesbrough on Sunday evening, prompting a warning from police to parents and carers about the risks of such behaviour.
According to a statement from Cleveland Police, the incident occurred at around 7.18pm on 1 March on Marton Road when children were reportedly throwing stones at moving vehicles. The teenager was travelling in a car at the time of the attack.
Police said a third party reported that multiple vehicles were struck during the incident, causing extensive damage. The teenage passenger suffered serious facial injuries after one of the stones hit the vehicle.
Officers are now urging parents and carers to speak with children about the potential consequences of throwing objects at vehicles. Cleveland Police said such behaviour should not be dismissed as antisocial conduct or “messing around”, warning it can lead to significant injuries and costly vehicle damage.
