TFL TUBE STRIKES: Upcoming April and May tube strikes set to disrupt Londoners' commutes

Londoners are bracing for significant disruptions to Tube services due to planned strike action by the ASLEF union, with customers urged to plan ahead for travel on Monday 8 April and Saturday 4 May.

The strikes are anticipated to cause a substantial increase in demand for taxi services, as many commuters will be seeking alternative transportation options.

Transport for London (TfL) has announced its intentions to keep as much of the network operational as possible; however, severe disruption is expected across several lines.

On Monday 8 April, passengers should prepare for substantial disruptions, with some lines likely to offer little to no service.

Furthermore, the start of Tube services on Tuesday 9 April will be delayed, though a normal service level is expected to resume by mid-morning. A similar pattern of disruption is forecasted for Saturday 4 May, with disruptions continuing into the early hours of Sunday 5 May, before returning to normal service levels mid-morning.

In light of the strike action, TfL has advised that while the London Overground, Elizabeth line, DLR, Tram, and IFS Cloud Cable Car services will still be operational, these alternatives may face last-minute alterations and are expected to be busier than usual. Commuters may encounter queuing systems as a result.

Furthermore, while London buses are set to run as normal, travellers are advised to allocate additional time for their journeys due to the anticipated increase in demand, which could lead to overcrowded routes.

Commuters are strongly encouraged to check their travel plans in advance to mitigate the impact of the strike action on their journeys.

Nick Dent, Director of Customer Operations for London Underground, said: "ASLEF is planning strike action on the London Underground on Monday 8 April and Saturday 4 May.  We are encouraging ASLEF to continue engaging with us so the strike action can be avoided. We would like to advise anyone travelling to please check before you travel, expect services to be busy and please allow extra time to complete your journeys."
