Uber has responded to the Supreme Court’s decision in its long-running dispute over private hire vehicle (PHV) contracts, stating that the ruling does not affect how it applies VAT.
A company spokesperson said the judgment “confirms that different contractual protections apply for people booking trips in London compared to the rest of England and Wales” and added that “the ruling has no impact on Uber’s application of VAT, which has been upheld twice by other courts”.
