VERIFIED RIDERS: Uber unveils host of new features to boost driver safety and efficiency in US
Updated: Sep 19
Uber has introduced a series of new features aimed at improving the experience for its 7 million drivers and couriers worldwide. The updates, announced by CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, focus on enhancing safety, fairness, and ease of use for those spending hours on the platform.
In an effort to boost safety, Uber is rolling out enhanced rider verification across the US. From today, drivers will be able to see a “Verified” badge when a rider has passed additional checks. This follows successful trials, which showed that verified riders tend to receive more positive ratings from drivers.
Uber’s “Record My Ride” feature, allowing drivers to record audio and video through their smartphone’s camera, will also now be available nationwide. This offers drivers an extra layer of protection, with recordings encrypted and accessible only if drivers choose to submit them.
New technology features include integrating trip navigation with Tesla displays and introducing hands-free prompts through Siri, will offer drivers a more seamless and safer experience on the road.
Uber has introduced measures to give drivers more control over their interactions with riders. Drivers can now block riders who receive low ratings, while Uber will remind riders to respect driver and courier guidelines. A clearer breakdown of rider fares will also show where money is spent, including taxes and insurance costs.
To make working on Uber easier, the app is getting its first major redesign since 2018. New features include better navigation tools, a revamp of the Work Hub for couriers, and the introduction of predictive traffic data to help drivers make more informed decisions.
