WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023: Taxi drop-offs, pick-ups, ranks and expectations
The Wimbledon Tennis Championship of 2023 will run from Monday 3 July to Sunday 16 July.
The maximum capacity for spectators is up to 42,000 individuals per day. Taxi services are crucial for visitors to gain access to the Championships, and licensed drivers are encouraged to assist passengers travelling to and from the event.
It is essential for drivers to be aware of designated drop-off and pick-up points, road closures, and restricted areas to avoid waiting or parking where not permitted.
Below are the full details of taxi arrangements and special measures for the duration of the Championships, including temporary signage for designated pick-up and drop-off areas.
Taxi arrangements
Fixed-fare, shared-taxi trips
There will be fixed-fare, shared taxi trips between the AELTC grounds and both Wimbledon and Southfields stations. These are as follows:
£2.50 for adults
£1.25 for children between 2 and 10 years old
Children under 2 travel free.
Taxi drop-off arrangements
Taxis coming from the direction of Southfields should drop their passengers on Wimbledon Park Road, close to the junction with Victoria Drive.

The taxi rank in Wimbledon Park Road, outside Southfields Station (Rank No. 5619), will not be in operation.
Wimbledon Station
The taxi rank at Wimbledon Station (Rank No. 6099) will operate as normal but fixed-fare, shared taxi trips to the AELTC will also be in operation from this rank.
Church Road – All England Lawn Tennis Club
A temporary taxi rank will operate off Church Road (adjacent to Gate 4) where fixed-fare, shared-taxi trips will be available for passengers going to Southfields or Wimbledon stations.
The taxi rank will also operate normally for passengers wishing to travel to central London and other destinations with fixed-fare, shared taxi trips to certain locations. The head of the taxi rank will be on the golf course estate road, adjacent to AELTC Gate 4, and will be fully accessible to wheelchair users. There will be a feeder rank on Church Road, a short distance south of AELTC Gate 5. Taxis will be directed into the golf course, as required, where taxi marshals will be in attendance to assist passengers.
Taxis will follow the internal road and exit onto Church Road via Car Park Gate 8.
The feeder rank will be for a maximum of 16 taxis. A check point will be in place to prevent taxis joining the rank when it is full.
Taxis that have been allowed past the check point to access the taxi rank are asked not to stop and pick-up passengers before reaching the rank.
Taxis should return to the rear of the rank via Parkside and Church Road.
Somerset Road – All England Lawn Tennis Club
There will be a temporary taxi rank in Somerset Road, near to AELTC Gate 13 (Rank No. 5588), where fixed-fare, shared-taxi trips will be available for passengers going to Southfields or Wimbledon stations.
The taxi rank will also operate normally for passengers wishing to travel to central London and other destinations with fixed-fare, shared taxi trips to certain locations.
Taxis will only be able to access this rank via the Somerset Road/Burghley Road junction.
This taxi rank is for a maximum of 8 taxis. A checkpoint will be in place to prevent taxis joining the rank when it is full.
The taxi rank will be fully accessible to wheelchair users and taxi marshals will be in attendance to assist passengers.
Taxis that have been allowed past the check point to access the taxi rank are asked not to stop and pick-up passengers before reaching the rank.
Pre-booked taxis
Pre-booked taxis should collect their passengers in Marryat Road.
Taxis should note that Church Road will be closed to all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, between AELTC Gates 1 and 5. This will be strictly enforced with barriers preventing access.
Expectations
All taxis on the rank must be available for hire and no taxi must be left unattended on any taxi rank.
Taxi drivers must start their meter at the commencement of all fixed-fare, shared-taxi journeys and any fare agreed in advance must not exceed the metered fare at the end of the journey.
If a passenger or a group wants a normal (unshared) taxi service, the marshals at the rank will ask taxi drivers if they are willing to take the passengers. However, if a driver cannot be found after a reasonable time the first free taxi on the rank should accept the hiring.
Refusing these fares or loitering to wait for a shared hiring is not allowed and any driver doing this could be subject to licensing action by TfL.
All taxi drivers who hold an All London taxi driver’s licence or a Merton and Sutton Suburban taxi driver’s licence can use the taxi ranks at Wimbledon Station, Southfields Station, Church Road and Somerset Road.
