A London taxi driver has been praised for returning a lost laptop after a passenger left it behind during a journey from Hyde Park to Leicester Square.
Passenger John Eager shared his experience on a social media group for taxi users. He explained that he had forgotten his bag and laptop in the cab, only to be reunited with them shortly after inside a pub.
The driver, named Barney, remembered the passenger saying he was heading to the Wetherspoons and took the initiative to locate him. Eager said the driver turned up at the pub with the laptop in hand around 30 minutes later.
After returning the lost property, the driver and passenger took a walk back to the taxi rank where they had a chat. Eager described the moment as emotional, saying the gesture reminded him of his late father who was also a taxi driver.
The act of honesty and initiative has drawn praise from others online, with many calling it a reflection of the high standards maintained by London’s licensed taxi drivers.
Eager said: “Got a taxi from Hyde Park to Leicester Square left my bag and laptop inside. Driver knew we was going to the Whetherspoons. Half hour later I hadn’t event realised I left it behind and the driver Barney turns up in the pub with my laptop with him. Took a walk over to the rank with him and had a good chat what an absolute legend and credit to the trade.
“Lost my Dad last year who was a Taxi driver and it’s exactly the kind of thing he would have done choked me up a bit.
“Thank you Barney you absolutely legend and one of Londons finest!”
