Uber is recruiting a senior manager to lead the expansion of its UK taxi business, placing London’s black cab sector at the centre of its growth plans.
The newly advertised Driver Operations Manager role will take full responsibility for Uber’s UK taxi business performance, with a particular focus on London Black Cabs. The successful candidate will oversee driver recruitment, engagement and retention, rider demand initiatives, strategic partnerships and relationships with key industry stakeholders.
The appointment comes as Uber seeks to build on its growing presence in the capital’s licensed taxi market. In a LinkedIn post promoting the role, Uber UK’s Head of Driver Operations,
Mariusz Zabrocki, described the black cab business as being in a “hyper-growth phase”, adding that the platform had surpassed 1,000 drivers and was continuing to attract new cabbies daily.
Ride-hailing giant says its black cab operation has entered a rapid growth phase as it looks to strengthen its position in the licensed taxi market
According to the job specification, the position will spearhead the rapid expansion of Uber’s UK taxi operation, with London black cabs identified as the initial strategic priority. Uber described the project as sitting at the intersection of driver supply, passenger demand, marketplace strategy and stakeholder management.
The role highlights the importance Uber now places on the licensed taxi sector. While black cabs have long operated independently from private hire platforms, Uber has spent recent years increasing efforts to attract licensed taxi drivers onto its app, allowing passengers to book both private hire vehicles and black cabs through a single platform.
The successful applicant will become Uber’s primary subject matter expert on London black cabs and the wider UK taxi market.
Responsibilities include developing acquisition strategies through direct marketing, referrals and partnerships with meter and payment providers, while also supporting taxi launches in other UK cities.
Industry engagement will form a major part of the position. Uber said the manager will work closely with external stakeholders including driver unions, fleets, meter companies and industry partners, while also helping shape compliance policies affecting black cab operations.
Notably, the company states that previous taxi industry experience and specific knowledge of London’s black cab trade are preferred but not essential.
The recruitment drive signals Uber’s intention to further expand its footprint within the traditional taxi market at a time when competition for licensed drivers remains intense and operators continue to explore new ways of attracting both drivers and passengers.
